Nov 15 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Join Dawn Rising for the Monthly Open Moon Circles at AwenTree celebrating all the phases of the moon; new, dark and sometimes full.  Each moon has a unique focus relevant to the season and the Wheel of the Year.

Travel around the lunar year with Dawn Rising and embrace the energies of the moons in ritual.  During the Open Moons, you will journey inward;  as you nurture yourself and your spiritual path.  During the Rituals, Dawn Rising will facilitate working with meditation, divination, journeying and manifestation.  Together we will dance with and honor the darkness, find the light, sit with its teachings and leave behind what no longer serves us.

The Open Moon Circles are facilitated by Priestess Dawn Rising and are open to all respectful persons from beginner to adept.  Ritual Garb (or dressing up nicely) is highly encouraged as we hold space in the presence of the Gods and Goddesses.

Cost: Sliding scale fee $8-$10. Please bring an additional $5 materials fee to be paid directly to Dawn Rising the night of the Moon.  Pre-registration required.

Orion Foxwood’s Fixing & Working A Magickal Candle in Conjure: 2 Class Series @ online workshop
Nov 28 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

How to Fix, Dress and Use a Working Candle, known as “Setting Lights” in American Southern Conjure: 2 Class Series with Orion Foxwood

Candle magic, or “Setting Lights” as it is called in Conjure, is a time honored and effective practice across traditions. However, it is too often treated as simplistic and trite or complex and overly arcane. The actual effective practices are powerful, practical and use many items that are already in your spice cabinet.

In this two class series, participants will learn about the practice of dressing, fixing and working a magic candle including the seldom taught process of engaging  “the pillar of flame”, the wax and its power of memory, and the legacy of liquid fire.

In this 2 workshop series, Orion will share lore, techniques and practices that are often guarded as secret within this practice:

  • The philosophy of fire.
  • The magical properties of candle wax.
  • The life stages of a working
  • Sealing a candle for later use.
  • Building and transitioning power during one burn or across burns.
  • Reading the burn, smoke and wax for impact and guidance.
  • Understanding the concept of “fixing”, “loading” and working/burning.
  • The process of gathering power into the candle.
  • Drawing the “Light of God”.
  • Dressing, loading, butting a candle.

Orion will teach with a hands-on approach in these sessions covering:

  • Using a pendulum to assist in the selection of herbs, oils, stones and other allies.
  • Cleansing and baptizing the candle for its new life.
  • Selecting a time for the work using the day of the week, time of the day.
  • Multiple ways of using petition papers.
  • Ways to dress the candle including a selection of oils and a discussion about prayer spit, use of personal liquids etc.
  • Igniting and covering the power in the candle by pulling power down from the heavens, through the ancestors and through the oil to anoint the candle.
  • Feeding the candle (the oven using liquor, coffee grounds).
  • The working area for the candle (mirror, colored clothes etc.)
  • Demonstrate loading the candle with assorted items.
  • Marking and sealing the candle against all intrusions.
  • Drawing the light of God to the taper to the working candle.
  • Reading the burn (wax, smoke, and fire).
  • Extinguishing the flame and disposing of the wax.

This is an online, two part workshop series, Nov. 28th and Dec. 5th. The pricing includes online attendance at BOTH workshops and access to the recording/replays available after each session airs.  You can opt to attend the live broadcast or to watch the recordings at a time that works best in your schedule.  You only need a laptop, computer, tablet or smartphone and good quality wifi/internet to access the online classes.  If you have any questions please contact Winifred at winifred@awentree.com

CANCELED Rediscover the Magic of the Mari Lwyd, an Old Welsh Yule Tradition @ Awentree
Dec 7 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELED.  Refunds have been sent to those who pre-paid.

“If ye the ‘oodened ‘orse do feed, the rest of the year, ye shall not need.” Traditional Yule Blessing

The Mari Lwyd, Traditional Yule Custom

The Mari Lwyd, was said to be a grey mare, and a Pre-Christian tradition that brought  good luck in the new year.

Join Melissa Pandina to rediscover the magic of the Mari Lwyd  and learn how to recreate this beautiful Yule tradition that is still done in some parts of Wales today.

About the Mari Lwyd

Known as the Mari Lwyd, ‘oodening horse or the ‘oby ‘orse, she lurks at the edges of our Wintery imagination. She is a horse figure created with a horse skull, adorned with ribbons and bells, that is paraded from home to home during Yule chasing out ill luck and ushering in good luck.  Engaging in “Pwnco” a playful battle of wits and giving children a fun fright, the Mari Lwyd brought merriment and celebration to the community.  Drinks and food are given to her attendants to ensure blessings and fertility of the land for the coming year.

During the evening you will create a realistic Mari Lwyd skull, made from cardboard, to take home with you at the end of the evening. (Each participant will make their own Mari Lywd to keep with the guidance of Melissa.)  While crafting, we will meet a real Mari Lwyd and look at historic photos. As we move onto decorating we will enjoy a glass of Wassail (A traditional hot drink made from cider, spices and fruit served at Yuletide) and discuss the Mari Lwyd, wassailing  and other British Isle Christmas traditions.  We will discuss how to incorporate these old practices into our own Yule celebrations, practice moving with the Mari Lwyd, and discuss techniques for working with the skull and connecting to the Mari Lwyd spirit. Finally, we will try our hand at Pwnco verses (think folk rap battle) and sing some wassailing songs.

Spiritual Readings (Eerindinlogun) with Cowrie Shells with Asindemade Jose at AwenTree @ AwenTree
Dec 10 @ 12:30 pm – Dec 11 @ 5:00 pm

Erindinlogun, the cowrie divination system owned and governed by Oshun, is the most profound and beautiful body of creation with traditional roots.

Baba Asindemade Jose

It is a special opportunity for me to be able to host Baba Jose at AwenTree for one-on-one private, spiritual readings on Sunday, December 10th.  This way of reading is a map from which humanity sprung, heads interacted, consciousness evolved and ulitmately sets the framework for a true alignment if living.

 From Asindemade Jose,

“This way of life is free flowing, adaptable to the society in which it roots as we have seen so well here in New York grow over the last 60 years.
Odu, the source of wisdom with which to live a better life and evolve your head into a great, long living, productive citizen of the Earth, is an all encompassing womb of creativity forever expanding, and weaving the story of Us on Earth.
This wisdom can be accessed through those heads who have chosen to commit their energy and tap into, through dedicated study, the Tree of stories. These stories, along with traditional poetry, local idiosyncrasies, and the collective consciousness of the Diviner’s spiritual and blood ancestry, sit together and assist them in interpreting the Odu as it would be on a tray to a head before them.
At this tray a spiritual  “prescription” is given, a conversation is had, and the best method of assisting the Ori being assessed is reached to be taken care of as soon as possible.
This process still fascinates me, it ensconces my inner artistic madness, and serves as a roadmap of thought and creativity in my beading, and ultimate story telling of the Orisa and Olodumare’s full spectrum of love on the Earth.”  © J. Irizarry

Baba Jose will be at AwenTree offering spiritual readings and consultation in 30 minute and one hour length sessions.  Appointment Only. Please contact Winifred to book your reading.

Asindemade JoseGeneral Spiritual Reading:
Your reading will include detailed analysis and consultation with Eerindinlogun (cowries/buzios) for personal health, emotional balance, relationships, finances, career growth, and overall spiritual development.

Life Purpose/Path with the Orisa: (for 1st time Seeker/newly interested) A comprehensive reading which maps all of the identifiable strengths according to your own Ori (head) and a guideline to simple daily rituals which will enhance your alertness and mindfulness in enJOYing all of the blessings inherently accessible to your Ori.
